I have been reading Shoe Dog by Phil Knight founder of Nike. It gives an incredible insights of the struggles of starting a business from scratch. It's a good read. You see Nike didn't start off as successful company, just a man with a dream & a bunch of fanatical workers who believe. It's tale of perseverance, creativity & pushing the boundaries. In the first 7 years, their sales were doubling year on year, but they still found it difficult to keep finding the money to grow. Overnight on at least 2 occasions, their banks closed their accounts because they were scared of the rapid growth. All the money pouring in was used to fund their growth. They would borrow money to pay for a shipment of shoes, sell the shoes, pay the bank back then get more shoes. To the banks this, not a sustainable way to run a business. They were looking at the raw numbers, which to them didn't make sense. So eventually the planets align & things fall into place because Nike goes on to become a colossus brand in Sporting Shoes. I won't tell what the things were because that would spoil the book for you. Shoe Dog: A Memoir By The Creator of Nike Here's why you should read this book. A couple of endorsements from people who make know a thing or two. “A refreshingly honest reminder of what the path to business success really looks like ...
