Beware of the Open Kitchen

Beware of the Open Kitchen

Open kitchens are beautiful, but you are on display 24/7

I recently had the pleasure of dining at a popular new restaurant in town that recently opened. I'd estimate the restaurant was at least a multi-million buildout given the well-equipped kitchen and beautiful interior design. The restaurant features an open kitchen that faces the main dining room (which works well because their kitchen is outfitted with top-of-the-line restaurant equipment that's stunning to watch someone cook with). Unlike other open kitchen concepts I'd seen, the kitchen wasn't placed behind a large piece of glass or a small pass window; located just a few feet away from the first row of tables, the only separation between the kitchen and dining room was a long table at the pass...

The Psychology of Color in Marketing and Branding

The Psychology of Color in Marketing and Branding

The psychology of color as it relates to persuasion is one of the most interesting - and most controversial - aspects of marketing.

At Help Scout we believe the problem has always been depth of analysis. Color theory is a topic of complexity and nuance, but splashy infographics rarely go beyond See n Say levels of coverage.

Green Lantern can't turn lemons into lemonade and I'm left equally unequipped to make smart decisions about the spectrum which shades our world. But why is such a potentially colorful conversation so unwaveringly shallow?

Capitalising on a global network: behind OpenTable's launch Down Under

Why did OpenTable decide to launch in Australia?

OpenTable decided to launch in Australia because we were recognised around the world as the go-to place to discover and book restaurants, and Australia firmly belongs on that map. So we're really proud to include the Australian restaurants in the 38,000 restaurant portfolio that we have globally, so diners can book great dining experiences here as well as in other countries.

Seth Rogen Is a Blindfolded Taste Test Genius

Seth Rogen Is a Blindfolded Taste Test Genius

It's not every day Seth Rogen swings by your office. So when we heard the actor, writer, director, and all-around hilarious guy would be in town to promote his new movie Sausage Party, we knew we had to do it up right. We compiled a truly bizarre mix of foods-everything from sausage (duh) to uni and rose-flavored gummies-and asked Rogen to blind taste them. Spoiler alert: He nailed it. He guessed almost every food within seconds, getting tripped up only by candied ginger. But maple syrup? No problem. "I grew up drinking a cup of this a day," he explained. (We think he's kidding?) Watch the video here:

Parents Who Make Their Kids Eat Vegan Deserve Jail Time, Says Italian Lawmaker

They could face sentences of one to seven years if the law is passed

Going vegan, whether it's for ethical or health reasons, is a personal choice - unless of course you're a kid whose vegan parents handle the grocery shopping. But in Italy, one lawmaker wants to make it illegal to raise children on a vegan diet.

Reuters reports that Elvira Savino, a member of Italian parliament, has proposed a law "that would hold parents legally responsible for feeding their children on 'a diet devoid of elements essential for healthy and balanced growth,"" Parents who are caught feeding kids under 16 a vegan diet could be jailed for up to a year, with sentences up to 7 years if the child becomes ill or dies as a result of said diet.
