To-go-only ‘ghost kitchens' boost revenue for pandemic-struggling restaurants
A ghost kitchen, or virtual restaurant, uses an existing business to create a new menu available almost exclusively through delivery, and frequently through third-party delivery services such as DoorDash, GrubHub, Postmates, Seamless and Uber Eats. It's all designed to create a new revenue stream for businesses without having to create a new storefront and dining space. 13cabs takes fight to UberEats and Deliveroo, offering meal delivery with 0% commission Aussie taxi service 13cabs has launched a meal delivery service, and is taking the fight to the increasingly controversial giants in the space, offering 0% commission to restaurants using the platform. There's a new player in the Aussie meal-delivery scene, with UK player Foodhub entering the market through the multimillion-dollar acquisition of Eat Appy. Foodhub differentiates itself by steering clear of the standard, and often controversial, commission-based model. Rather, it charges restaurants a monthly fee. Read more ...
