FoodService Australia begins next week, from 19-21 June at the Melbourne Convention & Exhibition Centre. FSA is a unique trade event - it is owned by your industry association, the Foodservice Suppliers Association of Australia for the benefit of the industry to help you to successfully improve your business and lifestyle. The foodservice industry is filled with dedicated, passionate people just like you who work long hours in the service of others. Whether you are an owner, chef, manager, waiter or an apprentice just starting your career you will find something at the FSA event to help develop your passion.The latest in catering equipment will be on display plus you can see plenty of cooking action from the best in the business. See chef v chef, apprentice v apprentice and baker v baker. Competitions on offer include:Chef 2011, the National Chef CompetitionThe FSAA 2011 CHEF CHAMPIONSHIP will pit chef against chef against the clock in a test of creativity, culinary knowledge and ingenuity. You will have one hour to create four dishes from a “black box” of ingredients.Apprentice Chef 2011On Tuesday 21st June sixteen apprentices of William Angliss Institute will be competing for the title of FSAA 2011 Apprentice Chef of the Year. They will each have one hour to create three individual tapas style dishes which will be judged by a panel of Melbourne’s finest chefs including Black Hat Chef George Hill.**Great Australian Sandwich ** saw the inaugural year of The Great Australian Sandwichship at the FSA Exhibition in Darling Harbour, Sydney. Eleven passionate competitors battled it out for the title of Australian Sandwich Champion. The winner, Adam D'Sylva from Coda Restaurant in Melbourne, was not only awarded the title of Australian Sandwich Champion but won a trip for two to London to represent Australia against the British Sandwich Designer of the Year.The competition was a great success and exceeded expectations of all involved. The event produced a fun, energetic and engaging experience of the senses for competitors and audience alike. The quality of entries and the enthusiasm, dedication and camaraderie of the competitors made for remarkable day.National Pastie CompetitionIf you are a baker with a penchant for producing perfect pasties then this is for you.The Australian Artisan Bakery CupTo promote and celebrate the art of Australian Artisan Baking through a professional and competitive forum for trade Bakers and Pastry cooks between 20 to 55 years of age.The 2011 National Baking CompetitionThe central focus of this competition is to be the next step in the evolution of baking competitions conducted on a state or regional level.
